Value of Lune 8 Darlington Pk 40 - IT could have been a massacre but the valiant Vale pulled together to ensure it was just a heavy defeat against one of the league's fancied sides on Saturday.

At half time they had managed to hold the North Eastern club to just 12-3 but after the interval the visitors slipped into cruise control. Michael Kent touched down in the corner and centre David Lowe notched up another try which Kevin Oliphant converted.

Cadman kicked a penalty in the 17th minute to bag three points but hopes of a major surprise were soon quashed by when Russell scored in the second minute of the second half and Oliphant converted. Kent scored another which was converted and he converted another with 12 minutes remaining after Irvine touched down.

Blistering pace by McMullen set up Stewart for another but there was some consolation for Vale when they registered a try with just a minute to go.
