Whitehaven 32 Carnforth 13 - WHITEHAVEN gained revenge for being beaten twice by Carnforth last season. The defeat leaves them with zero points in the league.
This was their fourth defeat in a row. To be fair Carnforth had to field a changed side yet again with Brendan Rich and Chris Nicholson both receiving late call ups.
Both players played very well but surely Carnforth could do with a more settled side.
Whitehaven started the game with the wind to their backs. The home forwards also had a huge advantage in height and weight.
Those forwards powered Whitehaven to a 15-7 lead at the interval but now Carnforth had the elements in their favour.
But, just as Carnforth were getting somewhere, the hosts broke to score a try that extended Whitehaven's lead to 15 points. Within 10 minutes of the try Carnforth again reduced the gap when Holden put over a drop goal via the upright and Hardy slotted home a penalty to leave Carnforth to within a score of the hosts.
And they thought they'd done it when Metcalfe touched the ball over the line - but the referee didn't agree and awarded a five yard scrum.
That disheartened Carnforth and Whitehaven re-grouped to move back upfield and cross the try line on two more occasions.
Carnforth make the short trek to play Bay Horse in a non league match this weekend.
