Thatto Heath Crusaders 27 Parkside Golborne 6 A LATE scoring burst ensured Heath's victory against a big Golborne side.
They opened their account when Mike Woods landed a long range penalty. And they thought they'd gone further ahead when Anthony Marsh was held up over the line.
They continued to pile on the pressure, with Phil Southward and Dave Donoghue prominent. And the strength of their tackling was rewarded in the 28th minute.
Stand-off Paul Coupe produced such a big hit on the Golborne prop that he got up and played the ball the wrong way.
Coupe gratefully accepted the gift and fed Marsh who darted towards the posts. He was held short, but the ball was quickly moved for Marsh to go over.
Just before the break Parkside replied with a try by winger Neil Kay.
Heath started the second half by conceding a penalty which allowed the visitors to draw level. But Heath restored their advantage with an Ashall drop goal.
Heath now began to take control as Golborne tired. First Darren Harris put Wayne Jackman over and Woods tagged on the extras.
Minutes later substitute Martin Horton offloaded to send Harris over out wide. Then Ashall made a strong run and a quick play-the-ball caught Parkside napping as Jackman claimed his second. Woods converted.
And victory was complete when the ball went through several pairs of hands for full-back Peter Derbyshire to score in the corner.
Heath's man of the match award, sponsored by solicitors Canter, Levin and Berg, went to hooker Alan Holmes.
