THE second round of the St Helens Combination's Garswood Trophies Hospital Cup threw up a number of surprises.
St Helens Star Premier Division outfit Gerard Arms were knocked out by Division One side Eccleston United. Gary Hughes scored the only goal of the game.
Old Congs Haydock took Prescot Leisure to extra time, before strikes by Peter Dooley and Paul Kelly sealed the issue.
East Sutton Labour, struggling for senior players, were dumped out of the competition by Division Two title hopefuls Broad Oak.
Goals from Paul Hopwood (3) and Darren Oakes did the damage.
Another Premier side, Carborundum, suffered a 4-1 defeat, this time at the hands of Bowling Green (Ravenscroft, Cartlew, Tilson and Jordan).
Former Cup winners Clock Face went out 4-3 against the vastly improved Sportsmans, whose goals came from Neil Wright (2), Gary Jackson and Paul Norman.
Pilkington Reserves (Ian Murray) were taken into extra time by Sidac and they will meet again this Saturday.
An Eddie Furlong hat-trick helped College St Helens defeat a plucky Leach Lane side.
Veteran Mark Carrigg hit the lone goal that gave Penlake a 1-0 success against Grosvenor Park Rangers.
Ged Feeney (2), Keith Adam and Jeff Highton hit the net as Nutgrove beat Bewsey Athletic.
Premier Division leaders Rainford North End had to pull out all the stops to beat Green Dragon 5-2. Their scorers were Gary Tomlinson (2), Paul Sinnott (2) and Dave Brewer.
Sunday clubs are reminded their next league meeting is at Greenalls Social Club on Wednesday, November 10 (7.30).
