TWO former students of Lytham St Annes High School will be rocking all the way to a top music festival in Cannes next year.

Andrew Day, 26, his brother Mark, 23, and two other members of their alternative rock group Pollen have just beaten off 50 other contenders to win BBC Radio Lancashire's Breakthrough competition.

Their prize is to attend the Midem music conference in Cannes, southern France, in January where they will be promoted by Manchester-based Raw Fish Records.

Said Andrew: "It's like the music industry's version of the Cannes film festival with more than 4,200 companies taking part from 93 countries - 10,000 people attended last year. Hopefully it will lead to our first record deal."

Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Andrew moved to Southport from St Annes two years ago, but Mark, who plays lead guitar and writes the songs still lives at the family home in Dawson Road with their parents Keith and Barbara.

The other members, "Queenie" McQueen on bass and Jake Burrill on drums, are from Southport.

Pollen first made their mark on the Liverpool music scene and have also played around Manchester and Preston.
