A LANCASTER car park has been granted the prestigious secured car park status.

The railway station car park has introduced a number of crime prevention measures, including CCTV and help phones.

It is also the first station car park to gain the secured car park status. The scheme is part of a wider initiative by the Association of Chief Police Officers to raise the safety and security standards in car parks.

Mahesh Navekar of Lancashire Constabulary Partnership and Community Safety department commented: "The combination of physical design features, security facilities and good management practice ensure, as far as possible, that opportunities for car thieves to operate are reduced drastically."
