COUNCILLORS are to be encouraged to start a brand new concept called "joined up thinking!"

The move, suggested by the Greens, will put the social and environmental implications of council decisions under the spotlight. Cllr Jon Barry believes that a new section called "sustainability implications" should appear on agenda papers to encourage councillors to really think about the long-term implications of their decisions. He said: "This is a straightforward way of encouraging joined up thinking in the way the council makes its decisions. Hopefully it will mean that officers and councillors think more broadly about the effects of what the council does."

He added: "For example, if this system had been in place when the council was deciding what to do with the Kingsway site, it would have made the council think more clearly about the effect on traders, access and what the public actually wanted there."
