BLACKPOOL snooker ace Lynette Horsburgh (pictured) pocketed the greatest win of her career on Sunday (October 24), winning the Grand Prix tournament.

Women's World Number 3 Lynette, a publicity officer for Blackpool and The Fylde College, chalked up the remarkable victory after beating Emma Bonney four frames to two in the event staged at Preston's Guild Hall.

In addition BBC cameras were right on cue to broadcast the event giving valuable publicity to the women's game.

And the snooker ace, who took home £1,000 winnings and the trophy, made sure she was right in the frame with a new hairstyle and striking pink outfit after a make-over by students in the Ansdell Campus Hair and Beauty Therapy Unit.

She said: "This win was absolutely fantastic - beyond my wildest dreams.

"Emma had knocked out the World Number 1 Kelly Fisher in the semi-finals so I knew she was going to be no push-over.

"But I managed to keep my head, despite shaking like a leaf, and left a rather surprised winner.

"My biggest break was 74 and I was going to make a century, but I missed the yellow.

"And I think my outfit had the desired effect. The women's game has suffered from something of an image problem over the years.

"When I had my make-over I just wanted to go out to the clubs, never mind play snooker."

And Lynette has already decided what to do with her winnings.

"I've decided to take a break of a different kind - a week in Tenerife."
