BURNLEY boss Stan Ternent is warning his players not to become FA Cup fall guys on the eve of tomorrow's first round clash at Barnet.
The Clarets chief had representatives at the Bees Third Division clash with Torquay at Underhill last week.
And although John Still's league leaders crashed to a rare home defeat, Ternent knows all about the threat they pose his side.
"Obviously, Barnet will go in to it as underdogs and the television cameras will be there looking for an upset but it's up to us to make sure they don't get one," said Ternent.
"They are playing very well and scoring a lot of goals, and they're top of their division so it will be a tough match for us.
"But we are looking forward to it and the mood in the camp is very positive at the moment."
The Clarets have endured a miserable run in the cup competitions during recent seasons.
And their first round exit against Darlington at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium last December nearly prompted Ternent to quit.
But the former Bury boss vowed to fight on and he's now reaping the rewards with the Clarets flying high in the Nationwide Second Division.
Now the Burnley chief is hoping his side can take that league form into the cup.
And after a few ups and downs during his own cup career, he wants the chance to write another chapter this season.
"Obviously, the league is the priority but it's a two-edged sword.
"Ideally, I'd like to get to the Cup final and win promotion," said Ternent with a wry smile.
"I've a few memories of the cup with different clubs.
"I've been on a few runs and I've been knocked out in the first round like last season, so I've got mixed memories.
"But that's all history now and we've got to look to the future."
Burnley are expected to take a large travelling army to the capital even though the game is being televised live on Sky.
But Barnet's Underhill ground only holds 4,057 which is why the club have been forced to look for a new home for the start of next season.
Yet, surprisingly, the Third Division club have decided not to make the game all-ticket.
It promises to be a real cup-tie atmosphere, though, and Ternent and his players are relishing the chance to put on a display for the fans.
"It will certainly be a full house, I would have thought, or else we'll take our full allocation at the very least, that's for sure," said Ternent.
"So we'll have a good following down there even though they'll have to leave fairly early tomorrow morning but I'm sure they'll be there.
"And our fans are fantastic away from home so we are looking forward to playing well for them."
Burnley will choose from: Crichton, West, Davis, Thomas, Smith, Little, Mullin, Cook, Johnrose, Payton, Cooke, Branch, Lee, Jepson, Brass, Mellon, Armstrong, Weller, Robertson.
Meanwhile, Bees boss John Still could be without two of his most influential players for tomorrow's clash.
Play-maker Darren Currie is definitely missing through suspension after being sent off at Rochdale recently.
And record signing Greg Heald who joined the club in a £130,000 deal from Peterborough, is also doubtful with an ankle injury.
Barnet will choose from: Harrison, Heald, Basham, Arber, Hackett, Gledhill, Doolan, Searle, Toms, Sawyers, McGleish, Charlery, Barnes, Wilson, Naisbett, King.
Rossendale Clarets are reminding fans who are travelling to the game with them tomorrow that the clocks go back tonight!
