ROY Evans has become the latest big-name to declare an interest in the vacant manager's job at Ewood Park.

The 51-year-old has been out of the game since severing his connections with Liverpool a year ago today.

But he now feels ready for a fresh challenge and the task of resurrecting Blackburn Rovers fits the bill.

"It's time I got back into the game and at 51, and with all my experience, I feel I've got a lot to offer some club," said Evans. "I've been out long enough. I've recharged my batteries. Now is the time to say 'Yes'.

"And Blackburn is one of the great jobs in football.

"I believe the club are taking their time in finding a successor to Brian Kidd and that's sensible.

"But they certainly have the potential to be back in the Premiership and owner Jack Walker deserves to be back there for what he has given the club."

The Ewood board will draw up a short list at a special meeting next Tuesday and Evans's name is bound to crop up in their discussions.

But chief executive John Williams has been quick to emphasise that although the club are now ready to narrow down their search, that does not necessarily mean a successor will be appointed later next week.

"These things still take time and there's a certain process you still have to go through," said Williams.

"But it does mean we are happy with the way things are going at the moment."

That means Tony Parkes may remain in charge of team affairs until next month.
