THE boots of Tess Bell were certainly made for walking!
For this one-time keen St Helens rambler became a globe-trotting teacher, living at various times in Aden, Malta, Malawi and South Africa.
Reader Marge McDonald of Avon Road, Billinge, recognised her Aunt Tess (nee Hackett) among a smiling group of St Helens Catholic Ramblers from more than half a century ago, featured on this page.
Marge picked out her aunt, second right in the centre row, in the flashback photo and now informs us that Tess is still a very active 83 years young.
"She was in St Helens area for a recent visit for the first time in 18 years and now resides in Emsworth, Hampshire," adds Marge. "A recent widow, she still enjoys walking each day and is a great-great aunt, having had no children of her own."
And all that healthy exercise means that Tess is fit enough to be involved in most of the church activities in Emsworth.
MANY thanks, Marge, for that little toddle up Memory Lane.
