THE Good Companions Writers of St Helens organise a barn dance at the Rainford Village Hall each year in order to raise the necessary funds which enables us to produce our annual anthology for charity (this year's beneficiary being the Willowbrook Hospice).
I can reveal to you that in 1998 our barn dance actually 'lost' money, but this year, 1999, we gained the princely sum of £230.
The difference, we feel, was that information this year figured prominently in the Star's 'What's On' column written by Sue Gerrard. For this, we thank you from the bottom of our funds.
We would also like to thank the charitable people of Rainford who supported and surrounded us by their happy presence, thereby also helping to keep alive the village spirit and a worthwhile Rainford tradition.
Eric Guest, Hon. Secretary, The Good Companions Writers of St Helens.
