A FEW weeks ago an occasion to celebrate the anniversary of the independence of Pakistan was attended by a former mayoress of Bury. And very recently the present mayoress was pictured at a housing estate in Tottington which was once green fields and supported wildlife.
In my opinion these actions by civic dignitaries are especially insensitive at a time when we should be remembering our dead from two world wars this century. The supreme sacrifice is surely mocked when we glory over the loss of former empires and delight in destroying our rural splendour.
