LYTHAM ST ANNES 1ST XI 2 WIGAN 1ST XI 2

TABLE-TOPPERS LSA visited contender Wigan at their newly laid pitch at Wigan Cricket Club. A frantic start saw both teams come close early on before good work from Dave Robbins resulted in a penalty stroke. Unfortunately they were unable to convert for the second week running. To make matters worse they then fell one goal behind. However LSA then had several penalty corners before Craig Nuttall equalised after good approach work by Robbins. They then started well after half-time only for the Wigan centre forward to score a great goal after a decisive break. However, LSA then took control for the rest of the game and Rob Jackson scored the equaliser. LSA then had enough chances to win the game but failed to take them. One of the highlights however was the return to first team level by John Pearson whose performance at sweeper was first class.

LSA 2ND XI 3 BLACKBURN 2ND XI 0

PLAYING in a bottom of the table clash with Blackburn, LSA made a promising effort to a match they really needed to win. After an excellent build up Richard Isherwood scored the first goal after combining well with Charles Batho. Isherwood then broke through on his own only to be barged off the ball as he entered the circle. He converted the resultant penalty stroke. In the first ten minutes of the second half LSA visibly lost concentration and Blackburn scored from a penalty stroke. However they responded well with another Isherwood goal resulting in his first hat-trick of the season to complete a really excellent performance at centre forward. LYTHAM LADIES 1ST XI 2 BLACKPOOL AND WYRE 1ST XI 6

TAKING on top of the league opposition, whose team is made up from the best players from the amalgamation of two clubs in the association last season, was always going to be a tall order for Lytham, especially after their rather low key performance last week. They were somewhat unlucky to go two down but eventually they got into their stride and deservedly came back with a great goal from Heidi Whitehead. However, Blackpool increased their lead shortly before half-time. In the second half Lytham were more positive and despite conceding further goals more than made up for it with several great attacks. Following one of these Ann Preston struck a great shot from the circle edge. Unfortunately the final score does not reflect the balance of the game.

LYTHAM LADIES 2ND XI 2 LEYLAND FOXES 1ST XI 0

SOME excellent play from Lytham with some strong passing movements lead to the first goal scored by Natalie Ingham following a penalty corner. More opportunities arose for Lisa Griffin and Lian Atkinson which unfortunately came to nothing. Despite a good fight back by Leyland the Lytham sweeper Natalie Glover and goalkeeper Susie Lees remained solid in defence. In the second half a superb run by Natalie Ingham from the halfway line led to her scoring her second goal and then Jo Martyn Clark was very unlucky not to score from a superb flick at goal.
