Haydock 24 Orrell St James 21 BELOW-par Haydock made hard work in defeating St James.
They started brightly enough and went straight on the attack with a strong run from Kelsey. Haughey took on several players and passed to Lowe who sent Tither sprinting over in the corner, unfortunately Tither had to retire after scoring with an injury. St James came into the game and in a seven-minute spell went into a 13-4 lead with two converted tries and a drop goal.
Haughey was having an excellent game at stand off and he created the second try for Haydock through the supporting Lowe. Boland converted.
Just before half time a strong run by Lowe created a gap and his pass sent pass Abbott in at the corner to give Haydock a 14-13 half-time lead.
Orrell scored within five minutes of the restart with a try in the corner. Boland reduced the arrears by two points with a penalty goal before Kelsey broke through 25 from yards to score in the corner to put Haydock 20-17 in front. Haydock could not relax but once again they came back and from a scrum Ireland broke clear to send a good pass to Lowe who skated through the defence to score to put Haydock more at ease by 24-17 with 15 minutes to go. Orrell had most of the ball in the last 10 minutes but Haydock defended strongly until an injury time try by Orrell to bring the final score 24-21.
Outstanding for Haydock were Haughey, Lowe, Kelsey and Dolan.
Haydock B 40 St Maries A 12
Haydock continued their winning ways with a comfortable win against St Maries seconds. They scored first through Burgess to lead 4-0 but back came Maries who went in front with a converted try. Page got the next two tries for Haydock with one conversion from D Burgess to put Haydock 14-6 in front. Maries scored a converted try to make the half time score 14-12 to Haydock.
Haydock strolled through the second half. Maries never scored a point in the second half, and tries from J Bradbury, Bradshaw, Page C and Perry and a further try from Page R plus three goals from Burgess D to bring the final score to 40-12.
Outstanding for Haydock were Page R, Perry, Williams and Beaney. Haydock under 14s 4
West Bank 14
Haydock failed to halt the Widnes side's unbeaten run in a hard-fought encounter.
Their try scorer was Robert Palmer. Rekon man of the match as prop Stephen Arrowsmith, with Palmer heading a great defensive effort in which Mark Jones, Craig Tipene, Matthew Foley, Kevin Hughes, Tom White, Chris Dyson and Michael Allen were also prominent.
Haydock under 12s nil
Leigh Miners 30
Haydock found it tough going against a strong Leigh outfit. Man of the match was B. Weldon, top tackler S. Hudson, most improved V. Williams, unsung hero D. Johnson, and coaches award winners J. Walker and L. Yates.

Wigan St Pats 45
Skipper and coaches award winner Ryan Livesley grabbed a hat-trick for Haydock, while man of the match Scott Davies also scored a try and conversion. Top tackler Joshua Jackson kicked a conversion, while Thomas Taylor was another try scorer. Most improved was Michael Guy and Luke Riley was unsung hero.
