HISTORIC photographs taken by Leigh cameraman Dick Sutton will take the town into the Millennium.
His images of the area are being used in the Millennium calendar put together by the Leigh 100 2000 Committee.
And profits from the calendar - expected to be on sale before the end of the month - will go to a charity in memory of Leigh businesswoman Rita Jones who died recently.
"Rita was a stalwart supporter of Leigh's regeneration. It is fitting that profits should be given to a charity in her name," said Cllr Tom Sherratt who was joint committee chairman with Rita.
The front cover will feature a picture of Rita taken at her daughter Belinda's wedding.
Other pictures will include:
Leigh Fire Service personnel; VE party at Dakins Road; consecration of St John's Church in Kirkhall Lane; Pennington Church members at Leigh Jubilee Carnival; Bedford St Thomas's in the snow; Princess Margaret at Mill Lane Mill; community carol singing on the Library Square in 1950; the Spinning Jenny junction with King Street and an aerial view of Leigh.
