MUSIC master George Eccles is being buried on the eve of his 70th birthday.
Retired schoolteacher Mr Eccles, of The Avenue, Leigh, who died on November 5 in Wigan Infirmary, was a talented entertainer and musician.
Westleigh-born George had a life-long connection with St Paul's, being church organist from 1953 and a school manager and member of the parochial church council.
He loved music and began playing piano at seven tutored by Ellen Menzies, Professor F Boydell and Dr Mort then studied at the Royal Manchester School of Music under Richard Greatorex.
His music talents were used in many ways. As a youngster, with twin sister Hettie, he performed a well-known double act incorporating music, dance comedy and monologues under 'The Musical Twins' banner.
But George was equally at home at the church organ or accompanying local groups and loved entertaining at Westleigh pensioner's centre where he was resident pianist.
He taught music at Gorton Secondary Modern School and had many happy years teaching at St Elizabeth's, Bickershaw.
A real character George always saw the funny side of life and his anecdotes kept audiences enthralled.
The funeral took place on Thursday with a service and burial at St Paul's.
