TERRY Martin's bid for the SD34 Championship has been wrecked by an accident on the 061 Road Rally.
A last-minute entry for the Peak District event, Martin and co-driver Simon Bentley rolled their Peugeot 205GTi into a dry stone wall after clipping a ditch at high speed.
Lying fifth overall at the time, the pair emerged unhurt, but with the car needing a new bodyshell, their season is effectively over.
"It was just one of those things," said Terry.
"We were straightlining a corner, and the car dug into the ditch and flipped us over."
Clitheroe DMC fielded two other crews, Simon Daly and Dave Oates, who retired in their Ford Fiesta XR2 before the first petrol halt after suffering alternator failure.
Andrew Proctor and Jason Crook had an excellent debut run in their new Vauxhall Astra, finishing second in the novice class.
