CHURCH services and wreath-laying ceremonies were held across East Lancashire, as people remembered those who gave their lives for their country.
The service at Blackburn Cathedral on Remembrance Sunday, followed by a procession to Corporation Park for a service in the Garden of Remembrance, which was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Coun Florence Oldfield.
She also attended two services in Darwen On Saturday she went to a service at Darwen Town Hall, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Boer War Memorial in Belgrave Square. On Remembrance Sunday, she attended a service at St Peter's Church followed by a wreath laying ceremony at Bold Venture Park in Darwen.
Coun Fred Slater laid a wreath at the War Memorial in Hoddlesden, after a church service at St Paul's Church yesterday.
There were a number of services and parades throughout Hyndburn. In Accrington, there was a service at St James' Church followed by a procession to a new memorial in front of the Town Hall, where a wreath laying ceremony took place. The service was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Hyndburn, Coun Bernard Dawson and Frances Molloy, who also attended the St John Ambulance Brigade Remembrance Service at the Brigade's Eagle Street headquarters.
At St Paul's Church, Barnfield, Accrington, an evening service was held with Baxenden Brass Band. In Altham, there was a service at St James' CE Church, followed by a ceremony at the War Memorial.
A procession was held from Bank Street to Gatty Park in Church for a service and wreath laying ceremony which was held at the War Memorial. In Clayton-le-Moors, a service took place at All Saints Church, followed by a procession to the War Memorial in Mercer Park for a short service and wreath laying ceremony.
A service was held at St Bartholomew's CE Church, Great Harwood, followed by a parade to the War Memorial in Memorial Park for a wreath laying ceremony.
In Oswaldtwistle, there was a parade from Thwaites Street to the War Memorial for a combined service and laying of wreaths.
There was a procession from the White Lion in Huncoat to the War Memorial for a wreath laying ceremony.
A service was held at St Peter and St Paul's CE Church in Rishton, followed by a parade to the War Memorial for a short service.
In Clitheroe, a service was held at St Mary Magdalene CE Church on Remembrance Sunday. After the service, there was a procession led by Blackburn and Darwen Town Band which left the church for a wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial Gardens in the Castle grounds. The Mayor and Mayoress of Clitheroe, Coun and Mrs Susan Alan Yearing also attended.
