CLITHEROE made hard work of this FA Vase clash but booked a place in round three with a goal five minutes from the end of extra time.
Paul Greenwood's late, late strike sealed the win for the travelling Blues side who are now unbeaten in five games. It had been a fantastic start for Clitheroe who took the lead after just four minutes with a spectacular strike from Darren Norman.
But when Morpeth equalised in the second half to force extra time, the game could have gone either way. Norman's early strike was one of few highlights of a tentative match.
The home side's goalkeeper mis-kicked a clearance and the ball fell to Norman who chipped into the top corner from 25 yards. But in a tight second half Morpeth equalised in controversial circumstances.
A suspected hand ball as time ebbed away after a tight second half was not seen by the referee who allowed play to continue and the North-east side to score.
After extra time and with penalties looming, Greenwood played a one-two with Paul Whalley and kept his composure to slot home the winner in the 115th minute.
Clitheroe boss Steve Parry was understandably elated: "It is a great result but on the balance of things we deserved the win" said Parry.
"They were hard to break down but we stuck to our game plan and it paid off.
"We can only hope for a good shot in the next round."
