ACCRINGTON STANLEY chairman Eric Whalley will not be dipping into his wallet to make up for lost revenue after the club's decision to go ahead as normal with their UniBond First Division clash against Matlock at the weekend paid off.
Whalley had said he would make up the difference if Stanley's gate had been affected by the Scotland v England Euro 2000 play off when the Reds decided not to change their kick off time to avoid clashing with the televised Battle of Britain.
But their decision was fully vindicated as 404 paying customers turned out to see Stanley make a point in a 0-0 draw - 25 fans more than their average crowd!
And only two other matches in the UniBond's two divisions attracted a larger figure and they were both in the Premier Division.
"There was over 400 on and the bar was packed out for the England game as well so we were more than pleased," said Stanley's commercial manager John DeMaine.
