THREE members of the trophy-winning Towneley High School brass band have been presented with merit awards, the school's highest honour.
David Hughes, cornet, Terri-Marie Hitchon, double bass and Kay Taylor, flugel, received the awards from headteacher David Hinks.
Mr Hinks said: "The merit award is the highest award the school gives and it is always reserved for someone who gains recognition at county, national or international level." The band has done exceptionally well, playing at the London Festival Hall and at an international festival in Zurich where they came second in the under 25s section.
The awards were restricted to the trio as a decision was made to present them to only students in year 11.
