THE scoreline flattered high-flying UniBond outfit Burscough although Bacup boss Brent Peters was forced to make team changes due to injuries and work commitments.
The only goal separating the two teams at the break in this LFA Marsden Trophy match came from the visitors after five minutes and was due to a mix up in the Bacup defence.
The second half saw Bacup try and take the game to the visitors but Burscough gradually got the upper hand. Bacup were working hard in defence with David Betts and keeper Marc Scowcroft in splendid form.
Burscough were finding it hard to break down a resolute defence, but finally added to their score on the hour and again in the 70th and 85th minutes when Bacup crumbled in front of goal.
They gave the ball away far too often but up front Karl Stanley and young Nicky Taylor were working hard and bringing some fine saves from the visiting keeper.
It was not to be Bacup's night and although they were beaten, they were by no means disgraced by a team two leagues above them.
