ON the day the nation pauses in silence to respect our war dead, we remember past generations whose fathers and sons never came home and, as in the Falklands and Gulf wars, poppies were made with sadness and worn with great pride.
Yet, this year I did not see a single young person wearing a poppy. Why is this? And what are our young people being taught - that they seem to have no understanding?
I hope next year all church schools will make a determined effort, as should state and private schools and colleges, to show they understand, remember and respect those who made the sacrifice so that we can have our freedom.
