LORD Clitheroe has stepped down after nine years at the helm of Yorkshire Bank.

He is being replaced by Sir Hugh Sykes, deputy chairman of the bank, which has six branches in East Lancashire.

"I have worked with a strong management team throughout my time with Yorkshire Bank and I am pleased to have been chairman of such a successful company," said Lord Clitheroe, 70, who lives at Downham Hall.

The Yorkshire Bank is part of the National Australia Bank Group.
