MEMBERS of a group that provides "talking" newspapers for the blind in Pendle are being asked for ideas on how to mark its 25th anniversary next year.
Pendle District Talking Newspaper Association runs Pendle Voice, providing audio taped versions of local and national newspapers and magazines for the blind and partially-sighted.
Pendle Voice, which operates from offices in Smith Street, Nelson, started in 1974 when Nelson and Colne College lecturer Mike Jackson organised a 60-minute recording for his blind colleague Dave Blezard.
The group now produces more than 2,000 tapes a week. The annual subscription to the association was fixed at £2.50 in 1974 and has stayed the same.
Anyone with any ideas is asked to contact chairman Alan Sadler on 01282 613787 or secretary Anita Haworth on 01282 691857.
Pendle Voice's annual meeting will be on November 30 at the Social Centre for the Blind, Derby Street, Colne.
