ATHERTON LR produced a stunning show to blast Bootle 4-2.
They rattled up four first-half goals as victory eased them out of the bottom two of the North West Trains League Division One.
John Paul Hughes pounced for the first; on the quarter-hour Chris Ingham smacked No 2 from fully 25 yards.
Ingham grabbed his second in a scramble following a corner on 27 minutes and Lee Helm scored a magnificent solo effort on 35 minutes.
Mark Winstanley saved a penalty to end a breathtaking first 45 minutes.
Bootle came back in the second. But LR were not to be denied. Centre back Tom O'Hanlon was named MoM.
ATHERTON COLLS fell 2-0 at Vauxhall Motors in the second round of the FA Carlsberg Vase.
With Chris Arnold having pulled up with a groin injury after two minutes and Jason Holroyd with a hamstring just before half-time Colls did well to concede no further goals.
And Paul Cox twice went close as Colls gamely tried to rally. Midfielder Liam Boden was outstanding.
