LEAGUE leaders Skirlaugh beat Leigh MR 18-10 at Twist Lane in a game of two halves.

A disastrous first half saw the Rangers 18-0 down.

But a rousing half time pep talk from Warren Ayres did the trick and after the break MR came out fighting.

And the introduction of ex-Leigh star Tau Liku certainly did the trick.

A barnstorming run from the south sea islander led to MR's first try. Liku won a penalty, which saw hooker Lee Lomax take a quick tap and score close to the posts. Mick Evans added the goal.

MR dominated the second half but the Humbersiders' defence held until the 77th minute when full back Peter Sharp scored out wide to end a spirited fight back.

The A team beat Folly Lane 19-7 to reach the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup.

A brilliant all-round team performance saw the second string overcome Premier Division opposition.

Timmy Howson, Rob Carroll, Chris and Stuart Lee scoring tries, Alan Coleman added a drop goal.

MR U18s beat Crosfields 46-12. A comprehensive victory for the Leigh youngsters against the other unbeaten team in the league.

Ian Hodson and Tommy Goulden scored two tries. Jimmy Thompson, James Pennington, Richard Varkulis and Glen Bracheck also scored TDs. Hodson added seven goals.
