MOST England fans were left cold by England's display against Scotland - but pub landlord George Marsden got an icy blast about the team from Chile!

His daughter Amanda Marsden, 29, has been living in the Chilean capital for the last 19 months - since her husband Gary Benham got a security job at the British Embassy in Santiago.

She rings George, landlord at the Hare and Hounds Hotel, Lammack, Blackburn, every Saturday as the football results come in, to find out how her beloved Tottenham Hotspur and her father's favourites Rovers have gone on.

And within seconds of the final whistle at Wembley on Wednesday she was on the phone - pleased England had qualified but with a moan because she was disappointed at the performance.

George said: "There is only a three-hour time difference so it's not too bad.

"We actually went out there in February and witnessed some of the demonstrations to do with the General Pinochet saga.

"Amanda is due to have a baby soon so if I have a grandson I suppose I'll be one of the few people around who may have a relative qualified to play football for both England and Chile."

Amanda, a former pupil at Ribbleton Hall School, Preston, and Gary, from Southampton, are due to be transferred to Africa soon, either to Tunisia or Rwanda.
