PUBLIC loos have gone down the pan, say environmental health inspectors in Rossendale.
Health officers have lifted the lid on a catalogue of problems at toilets in the borough.
All six toilets inspected by officers last month had poor lighting, wet, slippery floors and few facilities for the disabled.
Some loos had also been vandalised and others were in a poor state of disrepair.
Toilets in Bury Road, Edenfield have been temporarily closed after inspectors found the toilets were in darkness in both day and night, the floor was wet and there were no facilities for disabled residents.
At Crawshawbooth centre, toilets had been vandalised and the wet floor was described in the report as a 'potential safety hazard.'
Haslingden Market was also criticised for providing no facilities for disabled users and Helmshore loos were 'in a general state of disrepair.'
At Craven Heifer loos, in Burnley Road, Rawtenstall, threre was no sign to indicate the building was a toilet and stones were reported missing in the building's structure.
At Rawtenstall Market, the floor of the ladies toilet was wet and slippery.
Toilets at Rawtenstall's Valley Shopping Centre have already been earmarked for improvement after a poor inspection report in August.
More than £10,000 will need to be spent to bring these toilets up to standard.
Officers anticipate repairs at Bury Road toilets, in Edenfield, to cost almost £5,000.
