I HAVE read with interest recent letters regarding parking problems in the Woodville St/Williamson Road area and also the Sibsey Street area.
I recently lived in Williamson Road and understand and agree with the sentiments of the writers from there.
However, I'd like to point out the following to them, the council and the residents of other areas further east.
If the council issue a resident's permit scheme in these areas the problem parkers will simply move elsewhere, namely into Ullswater Road and Derwent Road areas and then also into the area around Wolsey Street and Park Road. Moor Lane near the grammar school is likely to be affected as is the area around Balmoral Road behind the cathedral.
So, if the council want to stop the problem properly, they'll have to be pro-active and start residents parking scheme in these places at the same time instead of shifting the problem elsewhere and waiting until the residents of these areas get problems and, understandably, complain.
Maybe if more schemes were started before the problems arose permit charges could be reduced because of increased revenue.
