PENWORTHAM has a new action group, aimed at entertaining local children and bringing residents closer together.

Penwortham Community Action Group, still in its infancy, is putting together a list of events for the future.

One of the group's organisers, Renee Blow, now wants more parents to come forward and help the group.

She said: "We'd like people to enjoy themselves. We raised £132 from a children's disco we organised recently, which will pay for the next one."

The group is looking to provide facilities for youngsters in the area and also tackle local issues, such as parking. Renee added: "Last week we met to discuss the football pitch at the centre in the near future.

"We thought it was for the local children, but it appears as though it is just for the Sunday League, which costs £2,000 per season to join.

"The children need a football coach to help keep them off the streets."

The group's next organised event is a Lancashire Night with a hot pot supper and live entertainment on November 26 from 7.30pm, at Kingsfold Community Centre.
