AS THE dying strains of the 'Last Post' echoed around the new-look Cenotaph Gardens, a town fell silent last Thursday.
Young and old alike gathered in Chapel Street, Leigh, for the annual Armistice Day Remembrance.
More than 100 people stood in silence for two minutes in the re-designed gardens - including children from The Avenue Day Nursery.
The short service was led by Leigh Parish Church priest in charge Rev Terry Challis, flanked by standard bearers Ken Stafford and Alf Holmes. The bugler was John Woods.
On Sunday, acts of remembrance were held at War Memorials around the area.
