THE pelican crossing at Hollins Grove in Darwen was turned off to coincide with the recent road works that disrupted the A666 again.

Unfortunately, it wasn't turned back on, or was it broken? Whatever the reason, on November 11, I phoned the highways department to report the problem and was told "it had been reported."

Inquiring further, I asked if it would be in use by that evening and was told: "I hope so, if there is no problem."

On November 15 the crossing was still not working.

Oh, I almost forgot - on Friday, November 12, when walking from Darwen town centre, I saw a council lighting wagon with workers who were putting up Christmas lights in Duckworth Street and thought: Isn't it about time we got our priorities right?
