I AM the police inspector referred to in the letter by ex-PC 101 Bolton published in your paper (Letters, October 6). It is 35 years since I left Blackburn and naturally I was amazed that after so long, someone remembered me. I believe that John Bolton won the £10 prize for his letter.
It is something of a coincidence that while I was serving in the Blackburn Borough Police I won ten shillings from your paper for a letter to the editor, no doubt your archives will prove this although it is some 45 years ago, but it was at the time Bob Pryde played centre half for Blackburn Rovers.
Bob accompanied the police football team to Springfield Park, Wigan, to play Wigan Police in the first round of the National Cup.
My position was inside left but on the way our goalkeeper, Ray Horne, felt sick and I was drafted into that position.
We drew two each, I saved three penalties and was dropped for the replay. Hence my 10 shillings.
