Parr Hare & Hounds nil Adlington Rangers 58 HOUNDS were swept out of the North West Counties Challenge Cup with contemptuous ease by an efficient Adlington outfit.

The writing was on the wall from the kick-off when Hounds allowed the ball to bounce into touch and from the resulting scrum the visitors raced in for their first try.

Three others followed in rapid succession and although Hounds threatened briefly when hooker John Paton was hauled down near to the Adlington posts, Rangers quickly returned to the attack and put the result beyond doubt by taking a 30-nil half-time lead.

The slaughter continued after the break with Hounds rarely able to advance beyond the half-way mark.

The best that could be said in Hounds' defence was that they did manage to field a side on a day when 13 other teams in the same competition failed to fulfil their fixtures, but they will have to improve on this sorry showing if they are to add to their solitary success to date this term.

Second-row Phil Thompson gave his usual non-stop display for the losers, while full-back Neil Briers, stand-off Paul Thompson and prop Mark Houghton, also tried hard, but for the most part this was a day to forget for Hounds.
