Widnes Albion 17 Haydock 29 HAYDOCK had to fight off a stubborn Albion outfit before they finally booked their place in the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup.

The Widnes side led10-nil after 15 minutes. But Haydock started to come into their own with strong runs from Kelsey and Dolan. And good passing along the line saw full-back Wade take the ball from Lowe to go in at the corner. Haydock struck again when strong-running centre Lowe forced his way over taking would-be tacklers with him. Albion dropped a goal to make it 11-8 at half time.

Boland reduced the deficit by two points with a penalty goal but Albion scored their third try and conversion to put them 17-10 in front.

Haydock's fitness began to tell when Lowe barged through for his second try. The next try was the try of the match from substitute Bloor who went 70 yards to touch down Boland to give Haydock the lead. And with 15 minutes to go Bloor dropped a goal to make it 21-17 to Haydock. With 10 minutes to go Lowe got his hat trick with a well taken try. Haydock rounded things off with a good try from Boland.

Haydock won this match in the first half when they ran in 30 points without reply. Tries flowed from A Worrall (2), Barker, P. Worrall and Bennett plus five goals from Burgess D.

Haydock subsidede to their first defeat of the season - despite scoring in the first minute.

Their tries came from Ben Melia, Chris Lloyd and John Raw. Matthew Cunliffe added a conversion.

Rekon man of the match was Andy Owen and the Craddock and Lamb top tackler was Danny Gee. Others to catch the eye were Cunliffe, Jamie Pilling, Barry Kerkhof, Chris Pilling and Danny Lyon.

Haydock romped to success thanks to tries from top tackler Jordan Gibson (2), Scott Hale (2), Kyle Braithwaite (3), Gary Anderton, Aaron Lloyd, Carl Dingsdale, Joel Gough and Callum Jackson. The West Lancs man of the match was Adam Melia, coaches award winner Daniel Brooks and most improved Callum Jackson.
