PRESTON'S warring days with Blackpool are over, according to North End!

The behaviour of North End and Blackpool fans during the past few derbies has improved to such an extent that police officers and Deepdale security staff have decided to let the game kick-off at 3pm.

For the past few years, the game has been pulled forward to either a noon or 1pm kick off to prevent fans boozing and brawling before a game.

But, apparently, that isn't such a problem anymore.

According to Nigel Webster, the operations director at Preston North End, the time is right for a 3pm kick off to be tired again.

He said: "We haven't experience the problems of the past in the last couple of years and long may that con tinue.

"By starting at 3pm we won't be penalising the fans who have had to miss out on derby games because they have commitments earlier in the day on a Saturday."

There has been no notable violence at a PNE/Blackpool game for two years. Two seasons, more than 78 fans were arrested following a clash at Deepdale.

North End are virtually guaranteed a full house for the December 18 clash with Blackpool, but are also hoping for a big turnout for this Saturday's game against Enfield.

Not only have prices been slashed for the game, but a voucher will be published in the programme giving fans priority when it comes to buying tickets for the third round, providing North End make it of course!

This scheme has been introduced in a bid to prevent the complaints received last year following the ticketing fiasco surrounding the Arsenal game.

Many fans, who follow North End but don't have season tickets, complained bitterly when they missed out on getting tickets because season ticket holders were given carte blanche to buy as many tickets as possible. This year, season ticket holders can buy two tickets each, but the system will only be put in place if it is a big tie.

Chief executive Tony Scholes said: "This is a contingency plan in case we find ourselves with a shortage of tickets.

"Last year's game demonstrated the huge interest a cup game can generate.
