SUPERMARKET giant Morrisons is in discussions to redevelop the Frontierland site in Morecambe, the Citizen can exclusively reveal.
The resort's theme park is scaling down its operation and, although exact plans have yet to be released, it is thought any new development will include a retail complex and a handful of attractions.
Morrisons has become a main player in the regeneration of Morecambe and the three-acre promenade site is considered a key location.
Shopping by the seaside has become a big draw for tourists at other resorts, such as Freeport at Fleetwood, and Morecambe is thought to need a retail boost.
A spokesman for Morrisons said : "We can't confirm any plans at present but keep in touch."
One local businessman with an interest in the site told the Citizen: "I understand proposals are being put together to go before the local authority and that it will become a retail park. It's early in the day but if everyone pulls in the right direction it should be good for Morecambe."
