A MUM and her young daughter were taken to hospital after breathing in smoke when fire broke out at their terrace cottage in Barrowford.
Zoe Lowley and her two-year-old daughter Casey were treated by paramedics at the scene then taken to Burnley General. They were both discharged after treatment
Firefighters were called to the cottage, next door to the George and Dragon pub, Gisburn Road.
Sub officer Jon Pinner, of Nelson fire station, said: "The woman was in the kitchen when she smelled burning. She came into the lounge and found her daughter had put a cushion on an electric fire.
"The woman tried to pull the cushion off the fire and burned her hand. They managed to get themselves out of the house but they both breathed in smoke and needed hospital treatment."
The fire caused severe heat and smoke damage to the lounge and smoke damage to the rest of the house.
