A MAN was killed and another was injured following a collision between an articulated lorry and a car on the East Lancs Road on Monday, November 15.
The accident occurred on the Manchester-bound carriageway, on the junction with Blind Foot Road at 2.10pm when a Vauxhall Cavalier travelling towards Manchester was in collision with the lorry as it prepared to turn onto the Liverpool-bound carriageway.
The driver of the car sustained fatal injuries and both he and the passenger, who was taken to Whiston Hospital with serious injuries, had to be cut out of the car by emergency services. The driver of the lorry was treated for shock at the scene but was otherwise unhurt and refused hospital treatment.
The road was closed to traffic for almost four hours while the police and fire service dealt with a diesel spill from the lorry and was only re-opened at around 6pm. Police are now appealing for any witnesses of the accident to come forward and in particular, would like to speak to the driver of a red saloon car who stopped behind the Cavalier and administered first aid until the paramedics team arrived.
If you have information, contact the police on 0151 777 5730.
