WHALLEY PUMAS Under-10s 1
LAMMACK 4
WHALLEY conceded a penalty early on and found it hard to get back into the game afterwards. A mix-up in defence gifted Lammack a second before the break.
Whalley came out battling in the second half and pulled a goal back through an own goal. Both keepers made some fine saves to keep the scores level until five minutes from time when Lammack scored twice more to seal the points.
BLUE STAR BOYS 0
WHALLEY PANTHERS Under-10s 0
A VERY exciting game with both teams playing some good football, but it was a day when both defences were on top and a draw was a fair result. Shomi Malik in goal was outstanding for Whalley and Edmund Lambert was their man of the match.
HASLINGDEN 0
WHALLEY TIGERS Under-11s 4
A SUPERB all-round team performance produced a fine win against a good Haslingden side. The Tigers started strongly taking control of midfield and Shaun Tonge hit a screamer in off the crossbar. Maitland Steel then scored two more before the break.
The second half brought more of the same and Steel completed his hat trick before Haslingden fought back and brought some fine saves from Aaron Catchpole. A great squad performance in which Donald Wharton and Steel were named men of the match. WHALLEY ARROWS Under-11s 2
KNUZDEN 0
A VERY closely-fought game in which Knuzden hit the Arrows woodwork four times in the first half and keeper Michael Dilworth made three excellent saves.
Whalley capitalised on their good fortune with two superb strikes by Alex Smith who beat several players before scoring from an acute angle.
Dilworth continued to thwart Knuzden with some more great saves in the second half. Smith had had the chance to complete his hat trick from the penalty after Marlon Murray was brought down but his shot was saved.
Marlon Murray and Gary Micallef were outstanding and Smith was named man of the match.
OSWALDTWISTLE UTD 2
WHALLEY Under-13s 1
WHALLEY Under-13s improvement continued when they were unlucky to lose 2-1 at Ossy. Whalley started well, but fell behind after 20 minutes.
They came out after the break and dominated the game and were rewarded when Paul Gudgeon equalised. Ryan Rigby beat three players before being upended. However, Walton blasted the spot kick over.
In injury time, Ossy broke away and scored the winner even though the whole Whalley team were outstanding.
DARWEN UTD 3 WHALLEY Under-15s 1
WHALLEY must be kicking themselves for losing in the first round of the Cup after playing some excellent football. Darwen hit the villagers twice on the break, then David Mercer hit an absolute screamer from 25 yards which reduced the arrears before half time.
Whalley squandered more chances in the second half and paid dearly when Darwen got their third and clinched the tie. Stuart Grant played well for the villagers and James Hoare was their man of the match.
WHALLEY Under-16s 1 ISLINGTON 5
SECOND in the league Islington were knocked back on their heels when Daniel Lawton opened the scoring for Whalley on 10 minutes. Whalley matched Islington and deservedly led 1-0 at the break.
Islington fought their way back at the start of the second half and scored twice in two minutes.
Whalley battled well but the Islington lads' fine football brought its rewards with three more goals to seal the points.
Andrew McGuire and Steven Hickey were outstanding, and David Perrin was man of the match.
