THE council and Railtrack are spending more than £60,000 on ensuring that Darwen Street Bridge, Blackburn, will be seen in its true colours.
It will be re-decorated in Royal blue, golden yellow and grey.
The work, due to start this week, is part of the latest phase of the town centre action plan, aimed at regenerating large areas of the town, as well as bringing in new investment and improving transport systems.
The scheme, funded jointly by Blackburn with Darwen Council with finance from the European Community's European Regional Development Fund and Railtrack North West, will be closely followed by plans to give an environmental face-lift to land in front of the Towns Moor retail park.
This work, funded by private developers, forms part of the new retail complex and will feature a piece of public art by artist Ian Randall. The painting of the bridge will be completed by May. Work will take place during the evenings and at weekends.
The project will kick-start other environmental improvement programmes on Darwen Street and through the town centre.
