PEOPLE from both sides of the Pennines delved into the archives at Colne Library to research their family trees.

The library, in conjunction with the Burnley and Pendle branch of the Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society, held an open day to help people peep into the past.

Archives and computer records were opened and visitors from as far apart as Ilkley and Accrington pored over the records. Librarian Christine Bradley said: "It just shows how interested people are in finding out more about their family history.

"We were inundated by people and it was a very busy day. We managed to find out all sorts of information and no one went away without knowing at least a little more about their background."
