ILLNESS has forced the leader of Ribble Valley Council to stand down temporarily.
Coun Peter Redpath, 72, is in hospital undergoing tests and health checks.
Coun Redpath, of George Lane, Read, joined the hung council five years ago.
He became leader following elections in May when the Tories seized control with a majority of one.
Deputy council leader Harry Backhouse will take the reins in his absence.
A council spokesman said the thoughts of officers and workers were with Coun Redpath and his family.
