AN INDECENCY charge against John Howard Eccles has been adjourned indefinitely because of his ill-health.
Eccles, 61, of Casterton Avenue, Burnley, is charged with attempting to commit an act of gross indecency with a male police officer in the public toilets at Spring Wood picnic site, Whalley, in July.
Phillip Potter, of the Crown Prosecution Service, applied for the case to be adjourned sine die. He said the main reason for the application was Eccles' ill-health.
"The problems he has have prevented him appearing in court on numerous occasions," said Mr Potter.
"This is not a situation where the prosecution feel they should not proceed. We take the view there is sufficient evidence and sufficient public interest to proceed.
"There is no time limit on a sine die adjournment and if the defendant were to come before any court, charged with similar matter, the prosecution would seek to reactivate this charge."
