A NEW housing development looks set to be given the go-ahead in a Hyndburn town whose schools have been described as "full to breaking point".
Plans to create 31 new houses at land off Whalley Road in Clayton-le-Moors have been submitted to Hyndburn council's development services committee.
Three companies whose premises adjoin the proposed site have objected, saying that the town's school and shop facilities are too poor to support more new homes.
Businesses near the site, which would be accessed through Mill Entrance, fear that if people lived close to their works, there could be conflicts over industrial noise including heavy lorries and cranes.
Bosses at the firms, including a stolen car recovery firm, a transport company and a furniture factory, claim that residents' and visitors' cars could obstruct their premises. They also say there could be road safety problems if more people are walking in the area, near Canal Street.
In June, councillors approved plans to build 89 new homes on land bordering the 244-home Barratt estate at Sefton Farm, despite protests from a councillor that schools in the area were already "full to breaking point".
Hyndburn development services committee has been recommended to give the plans conditional approval when it meets tomorrow
