SINGERS in three choirs aim to have a Christmas hit with their £10 "golden disc."
Nelson Civic Choirs - primary, junior and ladies - recorded 22 tracks of Christmas songs, carols and other favourites old and new to celebrate the choir's golden anniversary.
The CD has now been released, and members sold it at their latest event, an autumn fair which raised about £800 at Barrowford Civic Hall.
They hope to sell even more at their big Christmas concert at Colne Municipal Hall on Sunday, December 19, when all three choirs sing under their conductors Ted Parr, David Wilkinson and Shirley Cockroft with husband-and-wife accompanists Gordon and Sheila Doyle. Retired headmaster Mr Parr, who was made an MBE for his achievements, has been with the choir since it was formed 50 years ago as Nelson Municipal Choir.
Since then, it has grown into three choirs, who have sung in hundreds of concerts and festivals, including trips to Europe and Canada.
Pam Perry, junior choir secretary, said: "Mr Parr and the choirs wanted to make the anniversary year extra special for current members and past members. We hope to round it off by selling as many records as we can."
The CDs are available from choir members, at choir rehearsals, from Ted Parr on Nelson 616014 or Pam Perry on 618775.
