THE number of homes on a proposed housing estate in Nelson has doubled inside ten years, councillors will be told.
Hill Homes has applied to Pendle Council for planning permission to build 40 semi-detached houses on the unbuilt half of the estate on land between Highgate and Dunderdale Avenue.
A report to Nelson area committee says the number of homes planned for the whole site has risen from 36 in 1991 to 65, and on the unbuilt half relating to the latest application from 20 to 40.
Planning officer Barry Maher is recommending the committee refuse planning permission because some of the proposed homes would be overbearing on existing properties in nearby Causeyfoot and the layout of the estate is "cramped".
Previous permission has been granted for 36 homes on the undeveloped site.
Five letters objecting to the revised application have been sent to the council.
Mr Maher said he anticipated the developer would submit alternative plans to overcome the objections but as they stood he had to recommend refusal.
