THE Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) normally walk in St Helens on Remembrance Sunday, but this year, because our principal officer lives in Newton, and in view of the alterations taking place in St Helens town centre, we decided to walk in Earlestown.
And we are extremely glad that we did. The Parade Marshall is to be highly commended on the way he conducted the parade.
His orders were clear and concise, and his military manner ensured that everyone was kept in line which made for an excellent parade.
The band employed on the day are also to be commended on their excellent playing, the distinct drum beat ensured that everyone kept in step, and made it a pleasure to march.
It was noticed and appreciated that our MP, Dave Watts, and councillors stayed on parade for the march past and honoured the war memorial, along with the rest of us, instead of standing on the town hall steps.
Well done, Dave. Your gesture is a fine example for other dignitaries to follow.
V.C. Smallwood, Provincial Grand Secretary,
St Helens and District Province, RAOB.
